A new beginning

February 3, not exactly February 1st, but I am trying to start new habits and break old ones. This time just starting it on an odd date and not on Monday, but Friday. New news: I am in the process of changing my life in a very big way. I am not ready to announce it yet but by the end of the month I will be! Today I walked 1.6 miles in 37 minutes at 2.5 mph burning 176 calories. Yay for me! Thank you for your support now and forever! Have a great day!

I am almost finished with my "Holiday Closet Makeover". This has taken much longer than I thought but it is getting done. Today I need to catch up on laundry and try to get down to the studio to clean but I have a feeling that starting early Friday morning (my next available time) would be more beneficial to my style of cleaning...start early, get done early! Tomorrow I have a Nutrition Seminar and a Stampin' Up workshop to attend so can pretty much count that as a non-working day. I have so much on my list but it is getting done, one cross off at a time! American Sewing Guild -- Community Service Project

Our National Community Service Project for 2012 is Cancer Caps and Blankets for the Wounded Warrior Project. Our local neighborhood group met today to get started on these two wonderful projects. I brought my serger along and made these two hats. One of our members made the flowers that we pin to the hats! It is such a joy doing this!

2012 is really looking good!

Have a great week everyone. I am very busy this week. Today I had intentions on starting a new church, still looking for the right one...but I forgot, Lord, please forgive me but it is the truth. I cannot let this happen again next Sunday!

About a year ago we had some leaking on our roof over the front porch. That leak got worse and eventually leaked down into our Guest Room Closet onto the shelves. This the room where I store all my Christmas. We had it repaired about six months ago but I have yet to repair the inside. I refuse to put the Christmas things away this year and not fix it first. So I sanded, spackled, sanded, Kilz and now tomorrow afternoon, I will apply knock out and fix it for good! I can look in there from now on and know I did not let it go any longer, yay for me!!!

I hand wrote four thank you cards this week....more New Year's Resolutions!! Yay for me again!

We saw Les Meserables at the Majestic Threatre yesterday afternoon. I kept saying "wow"!!!! It was totally and utterly 100% AWESOME!!!! I felt so lucky to be there!

We have new neighbors clearing the land across the street to build, yay!!

New Beginnings....New Me....New Year's Resolutions

I have been sick with a cold since New Year's Day so today starting to feeling a little normal! I have major sinus issues and still have a cold but nothing like the last three to four days! I am starting a low calorie diet today and some exercise when I am feeling better. I hope to change my life one day and not be so obese....it is a hope and prayer I am constant about! I plan to post more here since I gave up Facebook for a while. I won't be posting personal pictures like grandchildren, etc. but will post pictures of my successes with gardening, decorating, etc. I purchased an organization magazine yesterday and a brand new shiny notebook to take notes for this year! Wish me luck! Happy New Year my friends!

My dh and I spent two wonderful weeks on the road! We went to Colorado Springs for business (he did) and I sewed for that week, we visited Pike's Peak and went to an Air Force football game. We then headed to Northern Missouri for Thanksgiving to visit my FIL in the Nursing Home and to cook a turkey with my two sisters-in-law and brother-in-law. We had so much fun! My SIL and I antiqued the first part of the week and dh, SIL and I hiked the national Purshing park the second part of the week, also visiting Dad. It was a fun two weeks but "there is no place like home"!!!

2011 Fredericksburg Gourd Festival

My neighbor and I cruised up further thru the hill country to Fredericksburg to their 2011 Gourd Festival. It was totally awesome. I would love to take my two oldest granddaughters to this event next year. The Kids section was fabulous, they all made bird houses out of gourds. Zelda from a farm in Louisiana headed up that event and she is just good at everything she does! We really loved viewing all the competition and was wow'd by the works of art! We also purchased clean bare "dippers and goose necks"! I will use mine for decorating around the house or for a bird house outside! Enjoy the pictures!

I made this quilt for the shop using Alice Kennedy's new line called "Orange Crush".....beautiful fabrics. The pattern is OF COURSE our own shop's exclusive pattern, created by Deanne Quill-Owner called "Road Not Taken"...it was so much fun to make and the colors are so happy! Every morning I take a little waltz around my property just to see what's change since the day before. This summer has been so hot and dry that the change was hard to bare but we all adapted and handwatered and prayed for rain, even our Governor had a special pray for rain day! This morning I was reminded by my steadfast true faithful xeric plants that never fail me. One in particular is my Candlestick Tree, it was frozen to the ground this past winter and defying the coldest temps we have experienced in a very long time, she stands in her glory. I love you Candlestick Tree, you are the best!

Morning Love....

This morning Don and I had coffee on the deck. I wanted to share with you some of the things I saw. Lots of Cardinals...such a beautiful bird, many Black Capped Chickadees, one Blue Jay around the three bird feeders, four Hummingbirds chasing each other around the feeder and five Golden Finches in my wild sunflowers by the kitchen window and one lone Road Runner running in and out the back of our property! As always the beautiful Deer waiting patiently for the feeder to go off so they could have breakfast on schedule. I closed my eyes and listened for the beautiful silence other than the chirping of all the birds and I wanted to remember the peaceful moments before 9/11 and ask God to give us all peace tomorrow as we remember all those that died that day....we shall never forget. Pray for those left behind for their hearts are still heavy with sorrow. Thank you God for all that you have given us, for those that we love and help us to be better people to serve you.

Ten years ago today, Don and I were getting ready to board an airplane in San Antonio to California as a plane was hitting the first tower...we were watching it on the television in line to board the plane. We boarded thinking it was a small cessna....sat on the plane for about 30 minutes when my cell phone started ringing....over and over again...my kids, my family...and all of sudden a gentleman came on board and asked us to quickly leave the airplane and return to the terminal....the rest of the week was a blur...it was just a blur.

Today I dropped by The Quilt Haus to visually prepare myself for next weekend's Quilt Show in San Antonio. There were donated quilts everywhere, stacks of them given to The Project Linus Charity for all the good people of Bastrop County whom have sadly lost their homes due to the wild fires raging there. I was so amazed at all the kindness, enough to reduce you to tears. I could not walk out without asking what I can do to help. All the quilts needed labels so I sat down and sewed on what quilts needed labels and my sweet Rebecca (my sewing student) came in and she sat down and folded all of them and bagged them as I sewed the labels on. It feels so good to give your time to a wonderful cause...I am so sad for all the people of Bastrop County and others whom have lost their homes. I know that these little acts of kindness being delivered to all the shelters will hopefully soften your bed at night until you can get into a new home. God Bless all of you!

First Day of New Schools

I went to visit him today and just loved his "hip" downtown Apartment building, one street away from 6th Street and overlooking the Colorado River, Lady Bird Lake and downtown Austin, our state capitol! He has a fabulous movie threatre, lounge and rooftop lounge and swimming pool. I am so proud of him!!

Fabulous Retreat at My Studio

Ruth, Suzie, Burnell and I really enjoyed retreat week at my studio. We managed to talk more than we accomplished but that is okay, fellowship is good!

It is a nice relaxing weekend with my hubby, love it! I need to prepare for the Fall, make plans for vacation and start thinking about Rich, Susan, Hannah and precious baby Amanda's birthday! God is surely good for bringing this little baby in this world....she has healed my heart ten times over. God "always" answers your prayers!

Fabulous Weekend Quilt Quest Bus Trip

This weekend I hosted a tour bus for 40 women to six quilt shops about an hour and a half apart, three the first day, spending the night in Waco, Texas and then on to three more shops and home Sunday evening. This was my first time hosting a tour bus and it was fabulous and I have to admit I was really good at it. The key was staying organized and keeping everyone on task and I did that well because all of the women were fabulous. We had ages from 29 to 91 and I also hosted a wine and cheese party the first night in our hotel meeting room with show and tell from the purchases of that day. It has been a while my friends! I just have been so busy and ten days in Myrtle Beach (home). I have much to catch up with. The kids have moved into their new home and they are loving it. I have some ideas on my mind about my own home and need to get started on it. I might as well paint when it is 100 degrees outside every day, geesh! I hope you are all well.

I am looking for advice on my family room cabinets. They are stark glossy white flanking both sides of my even more boring fireplace. The left side has a granite countertop and is the bar with a mirror backsplash with shelves, YUCK. The right side is cabinets and a opening (for a television but who wants a television on the far right side of a room??) Any ideas?

OMG....The "Ball" Fiesta Salsa Mix with a little added jalapeno and freshly ground pepper was a huge success. You can get two pint size jars if done properly. I had a few more tomatoes than I needed and made a little extra to try last night. It was so delicious, I highly recommend it!

Busy as bees

Here in the Southwest, 90s and 100s temps are upon us already! It has been really, really busy at the Road Runner Ranchito this past week. Our oldest and his family of wife and four kids, 13, 9, 7 and 7 months moved in to our home and my studio/guest house while awaiting the completion date of their new home! It has been a joy to have them and we are thankful that they have plenty of room to spread out between our two dwellings. The kids also have lots of room to ride bikes, scooters, etc. on our freshly paved circular driveway and have been visiting the community pool. We visited their new home under construction yesterday and I was so tickled to see it with the front finished and they are working on the inside now.

Without the use of my studio, I am venturing to my friends to the north of Canyon Lake for sewing space and it has been a lot of fun. Wednesdays continue to be my sewing day so I am enjoying the change in scenery.

Bartering with your neighbors and friends

My friend, MA, has a chicken coop and a small sheep farm. She is 70 and has been sewing since she was about five years old but alone. She has never had girlfriends to learn all the new techniques with so when she joined our American Sewing Guild, she and I began sewing together on Wednesdays at my studio. Since then we barter our resources and about two weeks ago she surprised me with my very own chickies! She also provides me with all the sheep manure I could possibly need! I have to visit them today, I am sure they have gotten very large! This is very exciting and I will have my own eggs too! I would have them here but my POA does not allow it so I figured this would be the closest thing! Life is a good thing! Happy Chicken Farming my friends!

This past weekend I had the pleasure of having a booth for The Quilt Haus in Katy, Texas. I was happy to be well enough to go and meet so many wonderful people. I love Katy....the people are awesome and there is a little bit of everything there. My favorite part of the weekend is always having dinner with my youngest son. He spent most of the dinner time on the phone with work but I am beaming with pride and joy how well he has done! He loves me enough to take time to leave work and come downtown for a quick dinner. It used to bother me when he did not spend much time with me but I have learned to enjoy the time we have and look forward to the next time without any hurt or hard feelings. I love feeling this way, I feel like I have grown spiritually! He does not have much time most of the time but he always makes time for me. My other favorite time is seeing my good friend Frankie. She is an awesome friend and my therapist when I was at a very low point in my life. I will never forget how she, my fabulous husband special members of my family and last but never least but first, God, carried me thru!

I am so impressed with quilters -- there is so much talent out there. I would just love to sit in a room with all of them and learn from them!

God is Good as always and I am truly blessed to be feeling better!

Annual Retreat to the White Sugar Sand of the Gulf

I know, I know..I have been missing. I tagged along with my dh to his annual meeting in Florida (which thankfully was later this year). I did not bring any sewing along as I was ordered some much needed rest after my bout with Pneumonia. I have enjoyed the beach and lovely views of the gulf and will be heading back to reality in a couple of days. I will leave you with a window of my views as of late. Happy Everything my friends! Not good news at the doctors!

I went to see my doctor today for the wheezing, hard to breathe and coughing. My SATS were low so he sent me to x-ray right away. He had me wait in the lobby until he could read them himself and I have Pnumonia. Boy, I knew that something was not right with my body this last week but I just could not let it get me down. Monday was the worst night and I took a steam bath thinking it would help and I thought it did but apparently it was just because it was daytime and even in Pnumonia you do better before night fall, silly thing that is! Anyway, I am on a whole slew of drugs and doctor is having me rest for a few days. Thanks for all your get well wishes! Pamie G.

Don spent the day spreading topsoil with the Bobcat all over the front entry. I seeded it with bermuda and rolled it with my tractor. We were a great team and it looks fabulous. We decided Mama Fu's would be a great reward! We are so tired and ready to retire for the night. I still have a bad cough.

Please pray for our oldest and his family. Tomorrow they put their house on the market so they can build their first home and be moved by June. They and the kids deserve it so much and I hope that it sells quickly. I just have a good feeling about it all but prayers are nice! Thank you!

DD Appreciating your pastor

I am not sure whether God is trying to tell me something or I am to minister to others. My husband and I do not attend church, but we are of faith and love Jesus and pray. So I prayed for God to change that in us, but we are not moving in that direction, so God please help us move in that direction if that is your will. We do not have the desire to formally attend a church but we have the desire to live good christian lives. So for now, I want to give you today's devotional:

Pray for your pastor....if the Devil wanted to score big, he would take out the general and not the soldiers....so he/she suffers the same struggles that you do.

Daily Devotional and how it applies to me!

I am sure we all can see ourselves in these daily devotionals. I am thankful that my neighbor/friend/walking partner loves me enough to provide me with this quarterly blessing. I told her yesterday that each day I learn something new about how God wants me to be. It is amazing how I can relate each day.

Today's DD is about being burned and how we handle it. I know this all to well and glory to be God that I have lived and let go. I am at peace with it and I know that each time I am faced with this adversity, God is right at my ear whispering his guiding words. God talks about "mercy deposits" and I try and make them as often as possible. As I get older, some things just don't matter any more. I know that if I focus on the good, the devil never wins. So I pray about it especially in my hour of need when something I said or did did not come out right or I am again being "burned", it is so much freedom to just let it go. Lastly, I search out for every thing I can find on how give forgiveness. You might call this passive/aggressive but God calls it a great blessing to not allow yourself to become bitter and to forgive at every turn.

I am free...are you?

Lot's to be thankful for! We got our new truck in yesterday and it is a beauty. I spent the day over at a friend's sheep farm playing with the baby lambs, digging up sheep manure for my gardens and lunch in Wimberly with her. My sore throat is gone but I am afraid it has gone into bronchitis. I just needed to stay busy and not focus on it so it would not make me feel sick!

Today's DD is all about thanking God for taking you out of the pits of misery, etc. that you may have been at one time or another. God is "the benefit" of your struggle...where would you be now without him rescuing you? I know that when I am down and out is when I speak to God most often. God's an asset, not a liability and boy am I glad he is there when I am down and out and he will be for you, I promise...he promises.

The Psalmist wrote: "Do you remember where you were before God helped you?"

Feeling better this morning, but need sleep!

DD: Core Values

This is one area that I am concrete on. My husband and I have core values, we practice them and we live our lives the way we believe we should. I guess that is why I find it hard to deal with people who have "core values" of being a christian but yet mold the "word" to fit their situation. Jesus has a fit for you, that is for sure, you can't get away from it. Living that core value is not that difficult if you stand up for what you believe in and remember the other areas that Jesus wants you to be kind, loving, etc. "Be doers of the word, and not hearers only." The time and place to be happy is now...evaluating your actions not by the harvest they produce, but by the seeds you're sowing"!!

I have to say that my husband and I are christians but we do not attend church....God will deal with us on this.....I struggle to feel like we need to be in the house of the Lord to worship his name. I hope that struggle is lessoned one day by the two of us finding ourselves there. Please pray for us!

Good Morning, feeling a little puny this morning with a sore throat but I took two tylenol and plan on keeping going. I kept the girls yesterday (Hannah was home sick from school). I just love them so much.

DD: Ask God to set a Guard over our Mouth. PS 141:3 NKJV Words can leave scars for a lifetime, and many people will never forget some of the things you've said to them, both good things, such as words of encouragement, and bad things, such as criticism and rebuke.

I have been in this situation many times and it used to be my moment to advise and criticize. I like to say that I have changed my tune in those particular situations. Especially if they do not deal directly with me personally. Why not let the ones that are involved do the criticizing (which sometimes the truth is hard to hear) and if you are not involved be on the "bringing that person" up side. I am doing that now with a very special person in my life. Nothing can be hurt by lifting up the already "injured" heart. God Bless you and yours! Pamie G.

The good Lord knows I struggle with contentment but I do in the end. I have to remember Erma Bombeck's words "The grass is usually greener over someone else's septic system." (especially since I now own my own septic system, hehe) God wants us to change what we can and accept what we cannot and the wisdom to know the difference. Helping out...

I spent yesterday helping out our oldest and his family prepare their home for the market so they can build. It was a wonderful day and my precious granddaughter and I worked so hard! The kids have not been here much since they have been so busy remodeling but their Mommy and Daddy assure Nana and Papa that they are coming soon!

Last year we focused on building decks and studios, this year we will start our landscaping which will take about five years. We call it our five year plan, hehe

We just have coffee and sit and read and relax wrapped up in blankets. I don't keep my house too warm, my skin irritation is getting to me. I am going to clean all the counters in the kitchen this morning and add some things to the tops of my kitchen cabinets. Every thing is in a straight line and I have read that it should be groups. I love decorating....I will always love it, I think! Have a blessed day!

I came across (once again) a blog that uses ugly language and apologized to sensitive readers. Sensitive Readers, give me a break -- grow up and clean your mouth out with soap. I would call us mature readers!! I am having problems with Google Reader in deleting blogs that I follow. I delete them and then when I go back, they are still there. This is one black bird I would love to get rid of! Enough said!

Texas Weather....

Be careful....bring many kinds of clothes, it's Texas! While I was excited to report about our fabulous temps, today we woke up to 15 degrees and frozen pipes from the well to the house...two hair dryers and one heat lamp and three very determined people, me and my next door neighbors, we accomplished what I would have paid a fortune for, we unfroze the pipes and got my water running. He had spent all night doing it on his own well....fabulous neighbors, I will pay it forward, most definitely!

I hope all the hard work, heat tape applied, and blankets, that tomorrow morning my dh will be able to finish his shower!

Happy Winter and Hello Spring.....soon, as our famous Groundhog did NOT see his shadow, rumor has it we are almost done with Winter! Yay!!

Today was so beautiful, 70 degrees. Spring is just lingering around the corner and in South Central Texas, it is here and gone before you can blink an eye! Happiness in Your Kids

Today we were so excited to meet our oldest and his beautiful wife and kids at the model home in their new neighborhood. We toured the model (which is the home that they chose to have built) and we drove over to their lot. This will be their very first home that they had built. We are so very proud of them. I am so excited to start saving my little "new home" piggy bank for my sweet DIL for her to have fun with. It is so wonderful to see your kids get to this point in life. Praise God for his blessings!

Legally Blonde Review at the Majestic

Saturday, along with our theatre group, we attended the Broadway show, Legally Blonde at the Majestic. There was alot of cute songs and good dancing but I would have to give it a "cutesy" review. My granddaughter, who loves music and sings all the time and is seven years old would have loved it. Not one of the best musicals I have seen!

Accomplishments

Today was fabulous! It was great being with girlfriends doing what we love best. I did some embroidery, we made footies, and worked on UFOs. We enjoyed our wonderful soup for lunch. And...being the strong women that we are, hitched my flatbed trailer from the front yard onto Mary Ann's truck hitch and parked it in the backyard so my POA won't fine me. I got a letter recently telling me I could not leave it in the front. I don't mind moving it, it is for the beautification of our neighborhood. Even though our homes are so far apart, we still don't want it to look trashy. A good day!
